Spirit of America Boating Safety Camp

Different types and sizes of watercraft and water-based activities provide an ideal environment for students who want to learn and develop lifelong skills and ambitions. Based on a unique hands-on program, our young adults develop self-esteem, exercise teamwork, safe seamanship, good boating and water safety practices, and demonstrate responsibility. At the end of this camp, they will be proud owners of their own Boating License!

  • Students will be instructed in NASBLA* Powerboat & Personal Watercraft Operator Certification and will obtain their Boating License through the DC Harbor Patrol
  • Water Safety / Pool Course: Ensures that all students are comfortable around and in the water. Here students will learn the proper way of wearing and using a life jacket. They will be instructed in water rescue and how to safely capsize and right a vessel.
  • On the water course work: Students will spend at least a day on each of the following vessel types: Jon Boats, Sailboats, Canoe and Kayak. They will also be exposed to large vessels .

*National Association of State Boating Law Administrators

Due to space restrictions and to make the camp available to as many area youth as we can, registration is limited to only one session per student during the 2015 sailing season.

*Please note ability to reschedule any missed class is unlikely. Before continuing with your registration, please assure that your calendar will allow for your child’s attendance for the full two weeks.

Please note registration is a two part process. Completing this online registration form coupled with submitting hard copy forms to the office no later than one week prior to the start of camp is necessary to complete the registration process. Failure to complete both steps will hinder your child’s ability to participate in our summer camp.
