Kids Set Sail Assistant Director Position - 2023

DC Sail is seeking an enthusiastic, seasoned sailor to serve as an Assistant Director for our popular Kids Set Sail summer day camp in 2023. This is a great seasonal position for someone who loves sailing & wants to make a difference in the in the lives of local youth.  KSS is a wonderful way to enjoy the DC summer season while keeping cool on the water!

Title: Kids Set Sail Assistant Director

Location: DC Sail, Diamond Teague Park Piers, 99 Potomac Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20003.

Hours: Monday – Friday 9 AM – 4 PM / June 19 – August 18

Supervises: Children ages 7-15 

Wage:  Depending on experience level

PurposeThis program offers a week long camp intended for children ages 7-15 where they learn the basics of sailing in a fun environment. Kids Set Sail aims to introduce students to the waterways of Washington, DC through the sport of sailing.

General Description:

Throughout the day campers will practice drills, play games, and learn maritime lessons both on and off the water. Responsibilities include preparing for and conducting camp lessons, working with the Kids Set Sail Director and counselors for particular activities and lessons, providing a safe and fun environment to learn in, and giving constructive feedback to sailors. Additionally, the Assistant Director helps the Director manage staff and youth.

Requirements:

  • Current US Sailing Level 1 Certification
  • Current CPR/First Aid
  • Flying Scot, Flying Junior and general sailing experience
  • Power boating experience
  • Experience working with youth

Preferred Requirements:

  • Candidates that are available for the full term of the program will receive preferential consideration
  • Power boat engine repair experience
  • General knowledge of sailboat/rigging repair and maintenence
  • Strong technology skills such as knowledge of Microsoft programs and Google Drive.
