Capsize Lessons

Sailing in heavy air (or seas) can be fun but there's also an increased risk of capsizing your boat. Our capsize lesson will give you the skills to right a boat after capsizing. After a demonstration from one of our highly trained instructors, they will purposely capsize and a Flying Junior at the dock. You will then enter the water and right the boat.

This course is necessary for completing the US SAILING Small Boat Sailing Certification (Beginner Lessons) offered by DC Sail.

During the sailing season from late spring until October, we offer the course on Sundays from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM.

While life jacket use is mandatory, by enrolling in this course we assume you are able to swim. Be sure to wear old shoes and clothing and also bring extra clothing to change into after the course.

If you have any question, please contact Traci Mead, Director of Business Operations.

The course is open to all Members.  For those who are completing the course as part of their Adult Learn to Sail lessons, there is no charge.  If you are interested in registering for the course to refresh or build your skills, it is only $25.

Please click on one of the dates below to register for the Capsize Course.
