FAQs

Sailing Questions

Where is your facility located?
Our sailing facility is located at the The Wharf/Gangplank Marina, conveniently located off the SW-Waterfront Metro stop in Washington DC. View directions here. Address is: 600 Water Street, SW, Washington, DC 20024.

Is there parking available?
Due to The Wharf construction project, parking is very limited. Metered street parking is the only option at present. Public transportation such as taxi, Uber, or Metro (only a two block walk) are highly recommended. Biking is also an excellent option.

What should I bring to my lessons?

We will send a confirmation to you a day or so before the start of your lessons. Basic necessities only such as sunscreen, sunglasses, refillable water bottle, closed-toed shoes (no flip flops or sandals permitted,) pen/note paper for jotting down information during shore based "chalk talk," and dress for the weather.

Membership Questions

How long does my membership last?
Memberships last 12 months, regardless of when you join in the season.

How do I renew my membership?

In the upper right corner you will see the login area. Enter your email address and password. Once you're logged in, you'll be able to see your personal membership information.

Can I sail year round?
Yes, within reason. Our Flying Scots are in the water April-November. Our Flying Juniors are kept on floating docks and are available for Frostbiting Racing on Sundays October-April, weather permitting. Racers are required to register for the entire series even if they plan on missing a date. Information can be found on our Racing page under Adult Sailing. Cold weather months require a wet or dry suit to sail on the FJs. No exceptions.

What does my membership pay for?
It depends on the level of memberships. You will have access to rentals, invitations to upcoming events and discount tickets for Sunset Sails on the American Spirit. For more information please visit our Membership page.
