Your event can be for simply a pleasure trip on the water with family and friends, or corporate team outings, birthday, anniversary, alumni, and other special events such as engagement announcements, and bachelor or bachelorette parties.

We have also been the selected host venue for small, intimate wedding ceremonies! One of our American Spirit Captains is an ordained minister and is licensed to officiate your ceremony if arranged in advance at the time of booking (additional fees will apply beyond the charter pricing.)

Private Charters on American Spirit: We offer three-hour Private Charter cruises for groups of up to 35.

While we are USCG licensed to carry up to 40 passengers, we cap the total at 35 to provide a little more space for passengers and Crew.

We do not pro-rate for less than 35 guests or for abbreviated sailing duration below our standard three-hour sail. Historically, we have hosted Private Charters with just two passengers and the cost is the same.

Pricing Information: The cost to charter depends on the date that you're interested in booking.  Monday to Thursday cruises are $1,400 and Friday to Sunday cruises are $1,750. This charge is a flat rate (no tax) and includes USCG fully licensed professional Captain, two licensed professional Crew, fuel, etc. Additional time may be quoted if availability permits beyond the standard three-hour time slot.

Food & Beverage: DC Sail does not provide catering options but you are welcome to bring food and beverage on board with you, including beverages containing alcohol (beer & wine only - no spirits, please.) Think "Floating Picnic" as you'll need to provide your own paper plates, napkins, utensils, etc.

You may also contract with your preferred caterer and arrange for delivery to our dock 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time.

Crew will prepare two large coolers stocked with ice for your event.

Amenities: There is a unisex head (bathroom) on board. We also have a sound system with wireless speaker(s) that docks up to a Bluetooth device and you’re welcome to bring along music. For evening cruises, crew will place low lights on the deck creating a soothing environment while you're sailing. The boat carries lifejackets in all sizes from infant through adult.

Sailing Area: American Spirit is located at The Wharf on the Washington Channel. We sail down to the confluence of the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers and typically sail south on the Potomac River toward Old Town Alexandria or National Harbor. It takes about 90 minutes to reach that area and we then swing around and return to our docks to complete the three-hour sail. We can sail up the Anacostia River to the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge but not beyond due to her tall masts that won't clear the bridge.

Please Note: We are unable to sail close to the Mall/Monuments due to the bridges on the Potomac River. The sailing area we access is quite beautiful and we've never had a complaint!

Location: Please click here to view a map of our dock location. The address is The Wharf Marina, 650 Wharf Street SW, Washington, DC 20024. You can also download a .pdf of our dock location that has a link to the Google Map by clicking here.

Weather and Cancellation:  We will be monitoring the weather the day of your event and if we need to issue a cancellation notice to your group due to severe conditions (thunderstorms, excessive winds, excessive heat warnings in summer, etc.) where we are unable to safely leave the docks, you (or appointed other) will be contacted via telephone and it will be up to the event coordinator to contact the remainder of the passengers.  Please be advised that we will sail in light rain or may elect to delay for a short while should a storm system be moving through.  The decision is solely the Captain's.

In the event we issue a cancellation due to weather, we will fully refund your payment, or you may also re-book the charter for an available date through our sailing season.

To Secure the Booking: Once your requested date is approved, you'll need only to complete a contract and issue a 50% deposit.  Payment may be processed with ease via our secure PayPal portal. The balance will be due five days prior to event.

We Offer Public Ticketed Sailing Opportunities: For additional information on American Spirit, please click here. We host wonderful ticketed events available to the public on board the boat throughout the spring, summer and early fall.
